Luke Swatman...

Luke at Brewood Singers...
Luke joined The Brewood Singers in 2009 and was with the choir for a couple of years.. the first year he was with us he performed a solo at the Christmas concert 'The Three Kings', which was a taste of things to come. Everyone loved him as he’s such a nice bloke and had a great tenor voice. When he left the area to move to Worcester, he left the singers.
He was spotted in the karaoke pub in Worcester and the video of him went viral. This was also seen by our choir member, Jen, who asked him if he’d come and do a concert with us. He agreed and by the time he came to do the concert in Summer, he’d been on The Voice UK. (See below for
Video Live & links)
He has promised that when we are performing again, he will come and join us in a concert, singing some of his favourite operatic pieces. Many thanks, Luke.

Luke Swatman
Biography
Luke started singing at the age of 6 after his mother Antoinette, (a keen singer herself) asked her little boy if he’d like to learn to sing properly? Apprehensive at first, (as a 6-year-old child would be), his mum told him that he only had to go for the one lesson and that his father Mark would be there with him. Thirty years later Luke continues to have private lessons.

Early Years
From age 6 Luke trained with Sheila Bond, a retired teacher in his birth town of Wolverhampton. As a boy soprano, he was introduced to many classical works and composers, immersing his young mind in this new world of music. Whilst Luke was very musical at his primary school, St Michaels RC Wolverhampton, it wasn’t until secondary school when Luke chose to attend St Edmunds RC Wolverhampton after he’d seen the school’s music department perform a carol concert at his primary school’s church, that Luke knew he wanted to expand his musical horizons.
From ages 12-16 years Luke performed in both his school choir and in-house productions. During Luke’s time with the School Choir, students had the opportunity to embark upon several tours across Europe, these often provided Luke with solo opportunities.
Also around this time, Luke started to sing with Willenhall Operatic Society, performing in musicals such as ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Godspel’ and ‘Mame’. Luke’s love of musical theatre was fostered at Willenhall, performing concerts with the company between the yearly shows.
When it came to leaving secondary school Luke was advised that ‘he wasn’t academic enough’ to attend the London music schools and so started work, allowing him to continue funding his private lessons.

2016
After immersing himself in the music of Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Russell Watson, Josh Groban, and Alfie Boe, it wasn’t until 2016 that Luke decided he would seek private tutelage in an area of music he had never sung before, Opera! After some research, Luke enquired into having private weekly lessons with Wilhelm Theunissen, a professional tenor based in Worcester.
Wilhelm introduced Luke to performing oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah locally, after which Luke quickly progressed to singing more operatic pieces such as ‘Un Aura Amorosa’ – Cosi fan Tutte and ‘Una Furtiva Lagrima’ - L'elisir D'amore.
Performing across Worcestershire with The Elgar School of Music, Luke quickly built a reputation for himself. A highlight for Luke was performing Bob Chilcott’s ‘Requiem’ at Worcester Cathedral.

2018
In March 2018 Luke performed at Worcester Competitive Arts Festival winning awards across several categories; Open Class for Opera; The Susan Ellis Lieder Prize; The William Lewis Recital Prize and most prestigiously, being honoured by the Worcester Arts Council with their Award for High Achievement.
Though building his reputation locally on the classical music scene, it wasn’t until June 2018 that Luke came to the attention of the international media after an informal rendition on karaoke of ‘Nessun Dorma’ at a local Worcestershire pub, ‘The Eagle Vaults‘.
Since then several high-profile opportunities have presented, including festival performances and appearing on BBC radio this Christmas 2018 for Children in Need.

2019
2019 looks to be a great year for Luke, with new tracks being recorded at the start of the year for later release!
