Sept 1998 - Aug 1999
The details of this year have faded somewhat but I still remember the warm welcome we received at our venues.   The small room at Coven Court and what now looks like a regular visit to Homebell House in Aldridge.  The very quaffable punch from the Stourbridge Bonded Warehouse in October and the large buffet at Brockton in December were quite memorable.  I remember altering the programme as we went on at Church Eaton Village Hall. It was a small venue so after running the first half, we decided that the Gnosall Hand Bell Ringers needed to start the second half so they could get their tables into position during the interval.  They were very happy crowd at Church Eaton, with lovely egg sandwiches.  As the concert went on and the audience got to know us a bit better, unfortunately our pianist made some major errors at the start at one of the pieces which meant that he had to stop (it happens to the best of us!).  One of the audience tried to lighten the situation by commenting 'It's Les Dawson!'  I remember replying, much to everyone's amusement, 'No! It can't be - He get's paid more than Les Dawson!!!'

I remember we had ordered some new sweatshirts before Christmas and they arrived in the week before Saturday 28th November.  I drove up to Lichfield to DHL on the Saturday to collect them and remember giving them out from the back of my car on the Sunday so that people could wear them straight away for the 'Switching on of the Christmas Lights'. I wonder how many of the Singers can remember the job they had getting all the coloured bits of fluff off their clothes as we had not washed them first?

Tong was always a useful concert to do - we saw it very much of a run through before our main Christmas Concert in Brewood Church.

We had a busy time before Christmas, but the things went very quiet, giving us a good chance to prepare for our summer concert.

The concert at The Halling Dene Centre in Penkridge in February was memorable for a couple of things.  Firstly, we were short of solos, so I brought along my son Thomas to play the saxophone.  Secondly, the after concert speech of thanks by a certain lady councillor and the humorous bantor that resulted between her and the Singers - and in particular between her and the Musical Director!

Our Summer Concert was titled 'Thank you for the Music' and the programme below will give you a little idea of what we were up to.
