At the AGM, I promised I would produce a written copy of the main points that we need to look at for next year, so that those who we unable to get to the meeting were aware of these points, and as a visual reminder for all members.
We should strive to:
Increasing the number of concerts
Improving our attendance and punctuality
………and communicating our availability for both these things.
We need to plan ahead for concerts. If people or organisations ask us to do a concert, they need to rely on us to deliver that concert if we have promised to do so. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask people to plan in advance and, generally speaking, give an accurate response. There are always going to be the odd one or two exception because of problems but these should be few and far between - and mainly connected with illness/ emergencies/ or work.
We need to be realistic and fair about attendance at concerts and practices, but we all have to plan ahead. I'm not saying there is one rule that fits all but planning is important. We have a concert availability list - sign it, please. When the square goes yellow avoid altering it - it means the concert has already been booked - to alter your availability might have a crucial effect on the running of that concert.
If you are absent from a practice then let me know in advance - preferably before 5.30pm - or otherwise a.s.a.p after. If it is a planned absence then sign the sheet. This is not only so that I can pass on apologies to the rest of the group - email, text or phone call will do.- but it is very useful to know who is going to be at practice before it happens so that I can plan. If I plan to start a new piece and spend 30 min or so on it, it is useful to know before hand if a large number of the group are going to be away - it gives me chance to think things through and change direction. etc
I would hope that this next year we can all turn over a new leaf and improve the way we communicate for 2009/10.
In the past I have set a list of targets for the Singers. This year I would like to do it differently. Rather than me setting the targets, I would like the Singers to set their own targets together so that we can all take ownership of these. I will come to this over the next few months.
