Christmas Carol Singing Charity Collection

Less than a week before handing over their £300 cheque to Epilepsy Action, members of the Brewood Singers learned that research had identified how music can help to reduce suffering from epilepsy.

Epilepsy Action is the chosen charity of Pat Mumford, Lady Captain at Oxley Park Golf Club, seen receiving the Brewood Singers' cheque from Musical Director David Brookes on Tuesday 27th January 2009.

David Brookes explained that, following research by Professor Jenkins identifying a link between listening to Mozart's music and people's brain activity (known as the 'Mozart Effect'), further work had shown that most experience a decrease in their epileptiform activity - the patterns in the brain that produce epileptic seizures.

David said "Every year the Brewood Singers donate around £1000 to charity.  It is particularly apt for a singing group to support this charity and especially suitable that we present the cheque on this day, Mozart's birthday".

The money for Epilepsy Action was raised mainly through Carol Singing, just before Christmas.  Thank you to all those who contributed.
