The Brewood Singers are a popular, forward looking, mixed choral group who were formed in 1973 by a group of local people who were interested in singing as a hobby.

The Singers are known for their repertoire of light songs (better described as classic pops), show and film music, traditional (some religious) and Christmas music. The variety of our repertoire has enabled us to perform many different types of concerts throughout the Midlands.

The Singers perform music to a high standard and pride themselves on producing enjoyable and varied programmes, either on our own or with other musicians and performers. In recent years the group have increased the number of concerts we have performed and are happy to sing at a variety of venues both large and small. Over the last few years we have performed at a variety of churches, village halls, residential homes for the elderly etc. In the past we have performed for freemasons, the Staffordshire Agricultural Society at the Stafford County Showground (formerly Bingley Hall), the British Digestive Foundation, and other charitable organisations.  We regularly perform in Brewood Parish Church, and have often invited guests to join us.

In the past we have performed with a variety of groups and artists such as the K & J Male Voice Choir; the Cradley Heath Male Voice Choir, the Walsall Harmonica Male Choir; the Black Country Comedian, Tommy Mundon; the Stefnir Male Voice Choir from Iceland,  the Ogmore Valley Male Voice Choir; the Gnosall Handbell Ringers; Abraham Darby School Bands, The Wrexham Brass Band, the barbershop group with a difference - Soundcrew, Cafe Society, Tamworth Male Voice Choir, The Shrewsbury Light Orchestra, Pitch Invasion (barbershop quartet),  Dan Whitehouse,  Polesworth Abbey Choir, Jackfield Brass Band and others too.

The Singers do charge a negotiable fee for performing, according to the size of venue and the nature of the group organising the concert. If the aim of the concert is to raise money for a charitable cause, this is taken into consideration when negotiating the fee.

Apart from singing, another aim of the Singers is to raise money for charity. In the past we have made donations to NSPCC One Stop Appeal, The Staffordshire County Ambulance Appeal, Rainbow House (Walsall), Walsall Charity Trust, Brewood Parish Church, Brewood Roman Catholic Church, Brewood Methodist Church, Brewood Playgroup, Age Concern, Compton Hospice, as well as performing concerts to help boost various charitable funds.

Over the years, the membership of the group has remained fairly stable, increasing slightly more recently.  Of more recent years our membership has averaging between 24 and 30. We are always on the lookout for new loyal members who share the same aims and who have a positive contribution to make to the performance of the group, at the same time always respecting our desire to maintain a balance between voice parts.  At present we have a waiting list for ladies, but this should not deter people from applying. We are, however, particularly keen on recruiting more men (tenors and basses). If there is anyone out there who would like to join us and can make our regular Thursday night practice, please get in touch.

As well as producing concerts for other organisations and appearing as guests, each year we produce our own concerts here in Brewood, often in spring and/or summer.  Our Traditional Christmas Concert in December remains a firm favourite with our audiences.  Details about our own concerts and those we produce for others will be found on the 'Concerts and Dates' link.

The Brewood Singers are pleased to announce that we are at present drawing up our concert schedule for and 2012 & 2013.  If you are interested in organising a concert and wish to consider the Singers, please contact our secretary, Pat Mumford.

The Singers always try their best to accommodate all requests for concerts, but it is always a good idea to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. This is particularly important when making requests for concerts for the months leading up to Christmas - our busiest time.

Please spread the word about the Brewood Singers to your friends.

May I take this opportunity of thanking all those organisations who have supported us in the past, and I hope we will have the pleasure of singing for you again in the not too distant future.

On behalf of the Brewood Singers may I wish you (and your society/ church/ charitable organisation) every success over the coming months.

Kind Regards,

David S Brookes
